Learn WordPress Quickly |Video Tutorials for a Fast Start

Welcome to this video demonstration site. In this site I will help you to learn WordPress quickly, video tutorials provide an easy way to do this.  As we move down through the WordPress menu on the left side of the screen, I will introduce you to the various items that appear on the menu and what each menu item does.

Learning to Use the Editors

After introducing you to the main dashboard and the home screen I’ll spend a bit of time talking about the page editor. When we’re finished with the page editor I will move to the post editor. The editors are very similar.  Once you have grasped the concepts with the first editor, the second editor should be easy.

The WordPress Settings: How to Set up Your WordPress Site

When I have completed the editors I’m going to jump down to the settings. It’s good to understand how the setting should be set and what the various pieces of the settings menu do.

The Appearance Editor: Themes, Widgets and Customization

Themes

After the settings menu, I will focus on the appearance menu. The appearance menu is where you will go to add or change the theme for your website, this is also where you go to customize the theme that you have installed.

Widgets

Adding widgets is another item that is included under the appearance menu and I will go over widgets a bit so that you can understand how they work and what they do for you.

Customization

Then I will look at menus and how to customize your menus. Menus can be very powerful to help change the look of your site. They can be added in the sidebars in the widgets or they can appear at the top of your page. Often, some themes will provide multiple menus at the top of your page. Other themes will allow you to put in a menu wherever you like.

Plugins: The Magic Sauce that Gives you Power

I have saved plug-ins for last. Plug-ins are a way to add additional functionality to your site. There are thousands of plug-ins. I can give you some recommendations for the plug-ins that you will want to install. Often plug-ins are included in your installation and you want to know if you should leave them in or remove them.

It is important to note that plug-ins take time to load on your site. With each additional plug-in that you add, you will be loading your site more slowly. Speed can be a large factor in how well your site ranks, so you should use plug-ins judiciously.

Follow Along with Your Own Site:  Experiment for Free

You can experiment with your own site.  Follow this link to create a demonstration site.  You will be taken to Wealthy Affiliate where you will need to create a free account.  Then, click the Site Rubix menu item in the upper left-hand corner.  The next menu will present Site Builder as the second choice. When you hover over the site builder option, you can click on Go to build your free website.

I hope this allows you to learn WordPress relatively easily.  If you combine the video tutorials with your own experimentation, you should be able to grasp the concepts fairly quickly.
